GISS Adjustments Since 2008

(Another) NASA / NOAA climate-fraud Must Read …

NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW THAT

By Paul Homewood

Following the pause busting adjustments made by RSS, we need to keep in mind how GISS have been up to the same tricks for years.

Last year, of course, they instituted the same massive set of adjustments that NOAA had done, following Thomas Karl’s efforts. However, although these were by far the largest ones, in recent years other adjustments had been made, gradually cooling the past and warming the present.

One of the problems in trying to keep track is that, unlike RSS, they don’t archive old data. Also, because they only report anomalies, it is impossibly to identify which years have been adjusted in absolute terms.

Fortunately, bloggers have been archiving their own GISS records, and we also have the Wayback Machine, so we can piece together some of the recent alterations.

First, let’s take the GISS LOTI dataset produced for April 2008, as archived by…

Monday Mirthiness: Mann Flies the Friendly Skies

Do as I say, not as I do. #BottomOfTheBarrel #Hypocrite

Watts Up With That?

From the “I’m sorry sir, you’ll have to check that ego with baggage, you can’t carry it on” department comes this ironic missive from Michael Mann. Gate agents have quite a bit of leeway, and it’s just shocking they’d treat a fake Nobel Laureate this way.

h/t to Tom Nelson. Mann should be more retrospective, climate forecasts aren’t guaranteed either. Maybe he is just miffed that his jet-setting buddy Leo didn’t send his private jet for him.

Sure everybody has their gripes with airlines, I recently had one with Delta. But I don’t fly fossil fueled airplanes hypocritically:

“What is our future? That depends on us,” he said. “If we could stop burning fossil fuels today we could reduce climate sensitivity by 2.5 degrees Celsius (roughly four degrees Fahrenheit). “

It’s not too late for individuals to do their…

The Fantasy of Storing Wind Power: No Commercial System Exists & None is Likely

Green logic = storing wind energy in chemical based toxic batteries made from rare earth ‘mined’ from Mother Earth (if one big enough could even be made).

STOP THESE THINGS

unicorn About as likely as commercially storing electricity in bulk.

****

The wind industry is the perpetual infant of power generation: always looking for the subsidies to last that little bit longer; always promising to improve its performance; always claiming it will outdo hydro, coal and gas – provided, of course, that the subsidies keep flowing.

STT for one thinks the wind industry has had ample time to grow up and stand on its own two feet.

Like the brat that it is, the wind industry can’t be told what to do and, especially, won’t ever respond to demands from power users about when its product should be delivered.

output vs demand

It’s quite happy to produce plenty of power when it’s not needed at night time; and much less during the day, when it is (as seen in the graph above); and, often, none at all during periods of peak demand: as set…

Ice at the North Pole in 1958 and 1959 – not so thick

I blame your SUV …

Watts Up With That?

What would NSIDC and our media make of a photo like this if released by the NAVY today? Would we see headlines like “NORTH POLE NOW OPEN WATER”? Or maybe “Global warming melts North Pole”? Perhaps we would. sensationalism is all the rage these days. If it melts it makes headlines.

Skate (SSN-578), surfaced at the North Pole, 17 March 1959.

Some additional captures from the newsreel below show that the ice was pretty thin then, thin enough to assign deckhands to chip it off after surfacing. The newsreel is interesting, here is the transcript.
