COLD ‘weather’ is killing more people than usual.
THE BBC reports :
Excess winter deaths in Wales almost doubled in 2017-18 – rising from 1,850 the year before to 3,400.
Public health experts said adverse weather and influenza were to blame for the increase, hitting older people in particular.
Experts said it was the highest number of excess deaths since the winter of 1975.
But officials said spikes in winter deaths were not uncommon – with eight peaks over the past 40 years.
Across England and Wales, there were 50,100 excess deaths last winter.
However, this is half the number of excess deaths recorded in the winter of 1950 – when there were 106,400 extra winter deaths.

ACCORDING to Harrabin, via website Carbon Brief, UK energy consumers are using 25% less electricity, now, than they were in 2015.

ONE wonders if Harrabin thrives in the virtues of energy rationing without feeling bothered to mention the obvious negative effects of draconian climate change policies and symbolic gestures that fuel energy poverty, leading to a dramatic increase in winter-related deaths.
PERHAPS it’s because Harrabin can afford ‘green’ luxuries, unlike many of the silent majority, or the 1.3 billion people without any electricity at all.

Thickness Of The Ice Sheets Compared With Modern Skylines
THE Laurentide Ice Sheet was a massive sheet of ice that covered millions of square kilometers, including most of Canada and a large portion of the northern United States.
THE last advance covered most of northern North America between 95,000 and 20,000 years ago.
THIS ice sheet was the primary feature of the Pleistocene epoch in North America, commonly referred to as the ice age. It was up to 2 mi (3.2 km) thick in Nunavik, Quebec, Canada.

The storm, which all by itself made this the sixth-snowiest November in Chicago history, jammed the morning commute.
It forced the cancellation of more than 1,200 flights.
It shut hundreds of schools.
And it knocked out power to more than 340,000 homes and businesses.

Well we’re watching yet another narrative shift as the reality changes — the first was the re-branding of Global Warming to Climate Change, and the latest is that a warming world means we should now expect more snowfall, not less.
That’s right, apparently our baking planet will now witness more record cold temperatures, blizzards and early season snow.
I call bullshit.
And I call you a moron if you’re buying this tripe, because it’s so obviously the sun.
We’ve known the mechanism for decades, as this article from 1975’s Science News explains:

And as our star continues its decline into this next Grand Solar Minimum, a cooling globe will become ever-more apparent — and ever-harder for the UN to cover up.
But they’ll no doubt give it a bash, they’ve been doing it for decades after-all.
Back in 1989 the UN came out with this: “entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels if the global warming trend is not reversed by the year 2000.
“Governments have a 10-year window of opportunity to solve the greenhouse effect before it goes beyond human control.
“As the warming melts polar icecaps, ocean levels will rise by up to three feet, enough to cover the Maldives and other flat island nations.”
Just how many dire tipping points and deadlines have passed since 1989, and how many more need to come and go before populations fully wake?
It’s an epic fraud.

Five U.S. Olympians will be on Capitol Hill Wednesday to brief lawmakers on how climate change is impacting winter sports and recreation.
“We still have a chance to be able to kind of salvage whatever is left of our winters, and kind of get back to a more sustainable way of life,” said Arielle Gold, who won a bronze in the halfpipe snowboard event in the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics — and will be on Capitol Hill on Wednesday.
Gold — along with cross country skier Jessie Diggins, freestyle skier David Wise, biathlete Maddie Phaneuf and alpine skier Stacey Cook — are expected to highlight climate solutions they’d like to see implemented.

A recent study by a team of researchers, led by the University of Waterloo, found that climate change poses a threat to the Winter Olympics — and that by the end of the century, only eight of 21 sites that have hosted the Winter Olympics in the past will have temperatures low enough to host again unless greenhouse gases emissions significantly drop.
“The climate in many traditional winter sports regions isn’t what it used to be, and fewer and fewer places will be able to host the Olympic Winter Games as global warming accelerates,” Daniel Scott, a professor at Waterloo, said in a January news release on the study.
The Paralympics is also particularly vulnerable, according to researchers.
“The traditional scheduling of the Paralympic Winter Games, approximately a month after the Olympic Winter Games, poses additional climate challenges as temperatures are warmer and the probability of rain instead of snowfall increases in most of the host locations,” Scott said.
The briefing Wednesday follows the introduction of House Resolution 825, which supports policies addressing the causes and effects of climate change and recognizes its impact on outdoor recreation.

You think we had a bad winter here in the USA? Look at Japan where they have walls of snow 56 feet tall (almost the height of a 6-story building).
There’s an avalanche of tourists coming to the Tateyama to see the walls of snow.
This spectacular mountain route, reopened on Sunday after being closed for five months during the winter, expects to receive a million visitors.
The Tateyama Kurobe Alpin Route is a major tourist attraction in Japan.
These large white walls are located in Murodo, at the highest point of the route at an altitude of 2,450 meters and are known as “yuki no otani”.

Just when I thought politics couldn’t disappoint any further, I see more half-baked proposals to fix our broken electricity system.
The system was broken by the actions of the very same politicians who now claim they can fix it. Such was the hysteria about ‘needing to do something about climate change’, successive governments and their collaborators in the opposition have done incredible damage to our economic prospects.
For decades, Australians benefited from cheap and reliable electricity fuelled by the bountiful supply of coal. This cheap coal and cheap electricity provided us with our greatest economic advantage. That has now been sacrificed at the altar of climate change.
In South Australia, where the Labor party, the Liberal opposition and the Xenophons have all embraced massive renewable energy targets, we have the most expensive electricity anywhere in the world. The subsidies tipped into the renewable energy sector makes it unprofitable for 24-7, 365 day base load power solutions to operate when the sun shines and the wind blows.
You can’t turn a coal fired generator on and off to cater to the whims of wind and sunbeams, leaving gas as the only real alternative. Unfortunately, these same politicians have limited the exploration of gas and other fuels to accommodate more green lunacy – meaning our gas supplies are limited and the price has risen accordingly.
After trashing our energy market and economy, the powers-that-be are now doubling the bet and gambling your future – again.
SA Labor are spending $100 million on diesel generators for a couple of summers and another $50 million on a battery that will basically power the state for a few minutes. Not to be outbid in this energy roulette, the SA Liberal opposition have just announced $100 million on subsidising batteries in homes.
The simple maths is that (depending on the battery itself) it costs more for battery storage power than buying it off the grid. This makes the Weatherill and Marshall energy bids just more political and uneconomic boondoggles, shepherded into public acceptance with the unaccountable snake-oil promise of ‘lower power prices’. If you then add the limited lifespan, disposal issues and the explosive potential of lithium-ion batteries, it becomes a heady mix of political froth and waste – at your expense.
But if you think this foolishness is limited to the State arena you will need to think again. This morning The Australian newspaper speculates that the Federal government is set to announce they will pay you not to use electricity. This is a very special approach….if special means unbelievably dumb!
Now I am not one of them, but some readers really have bought into the man-made climate change myth and the associated falsehoods.
They want to see us meet the carbon dioxide reductions demanded by the Paris agreement and agreed to by the Turnbull government. Amazingly, these same people aren’t all that enthusiastic about the zero emissions solution provided by the nuclear option which suggests emissions reductions aren’t really their end goal. It seems the blind pursuit of ideology is what it is all about.
But here is another option.
Over a twenty year period, Australian taxpayers will be slugged $60 billion to subsidise the unreliable and intermittent renewable energy sector. This method of wasting money has zero prospect of meeting the Paris accord demands. However, if we spent that money building twenty-five 800MwH new-generation HELO coal fired power stations, not only would we meet our emissions reduction targets – we would have baseload, affordable energy to boot.
Even better, if we provided contractual and operational certainty to private enterprise, they would build them without the government borrowing any more money. Surely that is a better way!
