NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW THAT
By Paul Homewood
The International Grains Council July report lowered total grain production to 2.148 billion tonnes this season, with wheat production downgraded across the European Union, Russia and Canada.
The IGC report put total global wheat production at 763 million tonnes for the 2019-20 season, down on last month’s forecast of 769 million tonnes, but still higher than the 2018-19 production figure of 733 million tonnes.
“ … the global wheat out turn is seen at a record, while maize is placed at the second largest ever and barley at the highest in a decade,” the report said.
The Rabobank July agricommodity market research report, released last week, reported global wheat production to have been reduced by 9 million tonnes between last month and this month.
“With major exporter production reduced by 10 million tonnes amid a modest increase in production in the US, hot and dry weather across…

OBAMA on food and climate change: ‘We can still act and it won’t be too late” | Global development | The Guardian
AS part of Barack Obama’s “save my legacy” tour, he circumnavigated the planet – travelling in a glider powered by trained albatrosses – lecturing us on human CO2-induced global warming climate change.
ON his menu were the usual climate crisis talking points including regurgitated hysteria on apparent climate-caused food shortages leading to “political instability”. A deliberate method of propaganda that mirrors the fear-mongering used by the CIA during the 1970’s global cooling scare:
IN 1976 the CIA warned “the world’s climate is cooling” and this would bring “drought, starvation, social unrest and political upheaval” …

21 Jul 1976 – C.I.A. WARNING – Trove
C.I.A. WARNINGMAJOR world climate changes [global cooling] were under way that would cause economic and political upheavals “almost beyond comprehension”, an internal report of the Central Intelligence Agency has warned the US Government.
“The new climatic era brings a promise of famine and starvation to many areas of the world”, the report warns.
The report, which contends that the Climate changes began in 1960, is based on a study by Mr Reid Bryson of the University of Wisconsin.
Its basic premise is that the world’s climate is cooling and will revert to conditions prevalent between 1600 and 1850 — when the earth’s population was less than 1,000 million and its rural, pre-industrial era civilisations were largely capable of feeding themselves.
The report, which- was concerned with possible political and economic threats the United States could expect from such drastic events, said the starvation and famine would lead to social unrest and global migration of populations.

BARACK Obama in 2017 : The same argument, only this time transposed to fit the current “Global Warming” scare …
“Our changing climate is already making it more difficult to produce food, and we’ve already seen shrinking yields and spiking food prices that, in some cases, are leading to political instability.“ – Obama 26 May, 2017
NOT too difficult to see the carefully selected fear-language and continuity of message used for decades by the climate crisis industry, regardless of temperature, to scare you into belief.

AS with most climate scare-mongering that is primarily driven by emotion, ideology, politics and/or climate models, the rhetoric and fear-mongering never seems to stack up against observed reality, data or actual facts. Global Agricultural Boom: A million Thanks To Climate Change
Posted: December 16, 2017 Filed under: Alarmism Debunked, Carbon Dioxide, Empirical Evidence, Fact Check, Failed Climate Models | Tags: agriculture, Carbon Dioxide, carbon dioxide emissions, Climate Change, CO2, food production, global cooling, Global Warming, grain 1 Comment“Global agricultural production suffered only during cold periods, including the Little Ice Age, which ended around the late 18th or early 19th century.
Since the 1800s, the earth has been warming — returning to levels ideal for crop production. It is remarkable that the mainstream media can claim that temperatures are killing crops when they have actually contributed to exponential growth of crop yields.”
A rather unwelcome message for the anti-CO2, misanthropic environmental movement.

As the report concludes: ‘Both global warming and carbon dioxide have benefitted plant growth, and both are important contributors to the success of modern civilization.’
Global cereal (grain) production has reached record levels in 2017, says The GWPF.
Credit for the increase usually goes to agrochemicals and other advanced agricultural technology. However, there are two other key contributors — carbon dioxide and climate change.
World cereal production for 2017 is projected to reach 2,613.3 million tons, 5.8 million tons above 2016’s level and nearly one-fourth higher than 2008’s. Despite population growth, production per capita rose 13 percent over the last decade, from 0.31 to 0.35 tons per person.

In the lead up to the latest gathering of the UN’s climate and political elites in Paris this year, preachers of the global warming religion are upping the ante, big time. This time scaring you about the size of your loaf of bread if catastrophic global warming takes hold.
Surely even true believers of the great faith, would be double-taking at this latest science-free rant out of their Sydney Morning Herald ?!

Warmist Sydney Morning Herald is off its loaf
How desperate are the warmist scaremongers of the Fairfax media when they now push this kind of stuff?:
Surely if the Sydney Morning Herald wants to link global warming to wheat it should at the very least admit that the most obvious connection – that we have been getting record crops, which is brilliant news for the poor and hungry:
Same story with all main grain crops:
Somehow I think the pampered Herald readers won’t miss out on the perfect loaf. More important, surely, is that the world’s poor don’t miss out on a meal.

Reader Mad Mick:
They even glazed the top of the loaf on the right to make it look more appealing.
UPDATE
An utterly bizarre chain of causality is offered on the ABC’s Radio National Breakfast to blame global warming for the Islamic State.
Host James Carleton is interviewing Neil Morisetti, retired admiral and former Climate and Security Envoy for the UK Government:
Carleton: You give a real example in your report. There is a once in a century drought in China, that led to a collapse in wheat production, that led to bread shortages and price hikes in Egypt, that led to the mass uprising against Mubarak, that stimulated the Arab Spring to move into Syria, that led to the creation of Islamic State…
Morisetti: We now need to make those sorts of links.
Pity that the facts completely destroy the theory, showing, for a start, that if global warming affects crops, it’s been all good for Egypt’s:
In China, too, crops have been increasing, not decreasing, in this age of global warming:
The food riots in Egypt in 2013 were not caused by global warming or crop failure, but overpopulation, a failing economy, political mismanagement and rising food prices as the country ran out of money for imports:
In 2011, the World Food Program (WFP) estimated that 17 per cent of the population were food insecure….
There are three fundamental drivers behind the rise in Egypt’s food insecurity: increasing resource scarcity, the corrupt and unsustainable food subsidy system, and the rapidly deteriorating economic environment…
So far in 2013, Egypt has faced plummeting foreign reserves, an economy in meltdown, intermittent fuel crises and ongoing difficulties in maintaining grain stocks. These occurrences mean that it is likely that well over the estimated 17 per cent of the population are currently experiencing, or are vulnerable to, food insecurity…. Population growth is accelerating in Egypt, with the population expected to exceed 100 million by 2030. Ninety-seven per cent of Egypt’s landmass is desert and there is simply not enough arable land to feed the current, let alone the projected, population…
Egypt imports close to 70 per cent of its food needs and requires significant foreign reserves to finance those purchases. Underlying the persistent issues in the Egyptian political sphere, is the fundamental fact that Egypt is running out of money to pay for its food imports….
Since the revolution in 2011, fears about political instability have cut foreign investment inflows and obliterated the tourism industry, Egypt’s major cash-source…
Hastening this decline is the continuation of the government’s fuel and food subsidies, which place an enormous burden on state finances. Egypt’s subsidy system costs roughly US$20 billion each year, close to a third of this for subsidised baladi bread.
That – not global warming in China – helped to end the Morsi Government in 2013. And that in turn has little to do with the rise of the Islamic State in Syria.

Reader Bob the Baker casts an expert eye:
The one on the left probably did not have enough moisture in the mix, was over kneaded, and was left in the oven too long to dry out. It also looks like it is two days old. The one on the right looks like it was given an extra dollop of yeast to plump it up.

Global Warming: Killing Grain Crops, Mass Starvation
Posted: July 24, 2013 Filed under: Climatism, Dud predictions | Tags: Alarmism, Carbon Dioxide, climate, Climate Change, food production, Global Warming, grain 1 CommentAnother fake scare. No, global warming isn’t causing starvation.
Herald Sun Andrew Bolt Blog 24.7.13
Global warmists have for a decade peddled the scare that global warming would kill grain crops and cause mass starvation.
Some examples:
Mark Rosegrant, International Food Policy Research Institute , February 2013:
FRAN Kelly: Dramatic falls in staple crop production, and a jump in malnutrition are predicted across the Asia Pacific in coming decades due to climate change. . . (Dr Mark Rosegrant) . . . according to your research which crops would be most affected?
Rosegrant: We’re finding that the key staples of rice, wheat and maize are going to have very large declines through most of Asia—anywhere from 15 to 25 per cent compared to a no-climate-change scenario.
Professor Ian Lowe, president of the Australian Conservation Foundation, December 2012:
For example, the United Nations food agency has warned that it will be less and less likely that we can feed the human population if climate change continues on its present trajectory.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, 2001:
Acute water shortage conditions combined with thermal stress should adversely affect wheat and, more severely, rice productivity in India even under the positive effects of elevated CO2 in the future.
German Advisory Council on Global Change, 2007:
The Climate Change as a Security Risk report by the German Advisory Council on Global Change called on governments meeting this week at the climate change conference in Bali to adopt deep emissions cuts to avert disaster…. According to the report… India, Pakistan and Bangladesh could see falls in wheat and rice yields as the monsoon changes.
David Lobell, Stanford University, 2008:
Impoverished farmers in South Asia and southern Africa could face growing food shortages due to climate change within just 20 years, a new study says…
“The majority of the world’s one billion poor depend on agriculture for their livelihoods,” said the lead author of the new study, David Lobell of Stanford University.
“Unfortunately, agriculture is also the human enterprise most vulnerable to changes in climate.”
Elizabeth Ainsworth, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, 2008:
Rice is arguably the world’s most important food source and helps feed about half the globe’s people. But yields in many areas will drop as the globe warms in future years, a review of studies on rice and climate change suggests.
…when the evidence from some 80 different studies is combined, the outlook is bleak, says Elizabeth Ainsworth of the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
Green activist Cameron Scott :
Most major political shifts are caused at least in part by economic pressures. Food prices are now at an all-time high. Those prices have, according to a wide range of analysts, contributed to the political revolts first in Tunisia and now in Egypt… But here’s the kicker: Food prices aren’t just some arbitrary economic statistic. They measure (inversely) the planet’s success at sustaining its human population. And right now, it’s not doing so well. The reason? Erratic weather spurred by climate change.
The latest evidence shows the scare is baseless and food crops are bigger than ever:
World total cereal production is forecast to increase by about 7 percent in 2013 compared to last year, helping to replenish global inventories and raise expectations for more stable markets in 2013/14, according to the latest issue of FAO’s quarterly Crop Prospects and Food Situation report.
The increase would bring world cereal production to 2 479 million tonnes, a new record level.
FAO now puts world wheat output in 2013 at 704 million tonnes, an increase of 6.8 percent, which … represents the highest level in history…
World rice production in 2013 is forecast to expand by 1.9 percent to 500 million tonnes (milled equivalent) although prospects are still very provisional.

Hot, cold, drought, flood, sleet, snow, disease. Alarmists will use any climate condition to promulgate food scarcity fear and hysteria.
Food security alarmism is not new.
Present day alarmists say ‘Global Warming’ will cause mass starvation and crop failure. Flashback 1976, during the ‘Global Cooling‘ crisis, the C.I.A, leveraged with (most probably) the “97%” science community, warned global ‘cooling’ would bring drought, starvation, social Unrest and political upheaval:
MAJOR world climate changes were under way that would cause economic and political upheavals “almost beyond comprehension”, an internal report of the Central Intelligence Agency has warned the US Government.
“The new climatic era brings a promise of famine and starvation to many areas of the world”, the report warns.
Its basic premise is that the world’s climate is cooling and will revert to conditions prevalent between 1600 and 1850 — when the earth’s population was less than 1,000 million and its rural, pre-industrial era civilisations were largely capable of feeding themselves.
A return to cooler temperatures in today’s fragile, . interdependent global economic structure would mean that India, China and the Soviet Union’ — among other northern hemisphere nations — will be hard pressed to feed their populations.
The report notes that’ “the change of climate is cooling some significant agricultural areas and causing drought in others. If, for example, there, is a northern hemisphere drop of one degree centigrade, it would mean that India will have a major drought every four years and can only support three-fourths of her present population”.
“The world reserve would have to supply 30 to 50 million metric tons of grain each year to prevent the death of 150 million Indians”, the re port said.
“China, with a major famine every five years, would require a supply of 50 million metric tons of grain. The Soviet Union would lose Kazakhstan for grain production, thereby showing a yearly loss of 48 million metric tons of grain.
“Canada, a .major exporter, would lose over 50 per cent of its production capability and 75 per cent of its exporting capabilities. Northern Europe will “lose 25 to 30 per cent of its present production capability while the Common Market countries would zero their exports”.
The report, which was concerned with possible political and economic threats the United States could expect from such drastic events, said the starvation and famine would lead to social unrest and global migration of populations.
CLIMATE FEAR, PROPAGANDA, ALARMISM
Regardless of whether it’s ‘warming’ or ‘cooling’ the same message applies.
Short memories we have.
