COLD ‘weather’ is killing more people than usual.
THE BBC reports :
Excess winter deaths in Wales almost doubled in 2017-18 – rising from 1,850 the year before to 3,400.
Public health experts said adverse weather and influenza were to blame for the increase, hitting older people in particular.
Experts said it was the highest number of excess deaths since the winter of 1975.
But officials said spikes in winter deaths were not uncommon – with eight peaks over the past 40 years.
Across England and Wales, there were 50,100 excess deaths last winter.
However, this is half the number of excess deaths recorded in the winter of 1950 – when there were 106,400 extra winter deaths.

ACCORDING to Harrabin, via website Carbon Brief, UK energy consumers are using 25% less electricity, now, than they were in 2015.

ONE wonders if Harrabin thrives in the virtues of energy rationing without feeling bothered to mention the obvious negative effects of draconian climate change policies and symbolic gestures that fuel energy poverty, leading to a dramatic increase in winter-related deaths.
PERHAPS it’s because Harrabin can afford ‘green’ luxuries, unlike many of the silent majority, or the 1.3 billion people without any electricity at all.

UNTIL Climatism blog I hadn’t done any regular writing. I entered the climate wars in 2013 without any formal training in writing or journalism. Though, one doesn’t need any formalities to suffer from the blight of writers block!
HOWEVER, one area of the climate debate that always seems to get the writing juices flowing is when I see how draconian climate policies affect our most vulnerable. How a very large segment of society, including struggling small businesses are made to suffer energy poverty in silence from the virtuous “save the planet” decisions pushed by wealthy climate elites, gleefully rubber-stamped by do-gooder politicians – all who can afford to pay the ruinous costs of ‘green’ energy and comply with the rules and regulations that they impose on others.
AND, let’s not forget the 1.3 billion people, globally, who have no electricity at all. What for them?
THE latest UN IPCC special report (SR15) details dramatic changes in lifestyle and energy consumption habits needed to limit modelled warming to 1.5°C by 2100. A multi-trillion dollar transition to renewables unreliables to reach a lofty ‘zero-emissions’ goal by 2050 in order to avoid a (fabricated) 2°C global temperature rise by 2100 that we’re told will result in certain Armageddon.
“The Global Warming of 1.5C report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change confirms the need to maintain the strongest commitment to the Paris Agreement’s aims of limiting global warming to well below 2ºC and pursuing efforts towards 1.5ºC.”

Surely it is time for the climate activists to kill their pets. Invigorated by the latest alarmism from the UN’s IPCC, they are at it again, advocating a range of economically damaging policies to save the planet.
We should shut down the coal industry, they say. Never mind it is about to reclaim its mantle as our highest export earner, never mind the tens of thousands of people that would lose their jobs, the communities that would be ruined and the millions of people overseas who would be denied energy and prosperity.

THE fact that the iceberg has settled itself outside the tiny village of Innaarsuit may be of definite concern, if it decides to flip causing a tidal surge. But, to blame global warming, while not surprising from the fake news media, is dishonest to the phenomenon of glacier calving – a natural and dynamic process that’s been happening for eons.
Many glaciers terminate at oceans or freshwater lakes which results naturally[5] with the calving of large numbers of icebergs. Calving of Greenland‘s glaciers produce 12,000 to 15,000 icebergs each year alone.[6]

CERTAINLY true for Greenland, from where this particular iceberg originated, where over the past 19 months more than one trillion tons of new ice has formed on the giant ice-continent’s surface.
DUE to a lot more new snow accumulating each year during the long winter, than is melting during the short summer, the surface is rapidly gaining ice, and glaciers are growing.
HOWEVER, scientists and the press (of course) report the exact opposite…

Readers may recall an item on the BBC World at One back in March about rising sea levels in Florida, when their correspondent claimed that:
1) Rising seas and flooding are turning Miami Beach into a modern day Atlantis, the city being submerged by water.
2) Sea levels at Miami are rising at ten times the global rate.
I covered the story here.
I complained to the BBC at the time, and, after being fobbed off the first time, escalated the complaint to the Executive Complaints Unit, who have now published the above judgment.
Astonishingly, they regard the claims about “Atlantis” to be “soundly based”, even though they now accept that sea levels around Miami are only rising at about 8 inches a century.
Of course, they had no choice but to withdraw the ludicrous claim about “ten times the global rate”!

After viewing Gore’s most recent movie, An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power, and after reading the book version of the movie, I was more than a little astounded. The new movie and book are chock-full of bad science, bad policy, and factual errors.
So, I was inspired to do something about it. I’d like to announce my new e-book, entitled An Inconvenient Deception: How Al Gore Distorts Climate Science and Energy Policy, now available on Amazon.com.
After reviewing some of Gore’s history in the environmental movement, I go through the movie, point by point.
One of Gore’s favorite tactics is to show something that happens naturally, then claim (or have you infer) that it is due to humanity’s greenhouse gas emissions. As I discuss in the book, this is what he did in his first movie (An Inconvenient Truth), too.
For example, sea level rise. Gore is seen surveying flooded streets in Miami Beach.
That flooding is mostly a combination of (1) natural sea level rise (I show there has been no acceleration of sea level rise beyond what was already happening since the 1800s), and (2) satellite-measured sinking of the reclaimed swamps that have been built upon for over 100 years in Miami Beach.
In other words, Miami Beach was going to have to deal with the increasing flooding from their “king tides”, with or without carbon dioxide emissions.
Gore is also shown jumping across meltwater streams on the Greenland ice sheet. No mention is made that this happens naturally every year. Sure, 2012 was exceptional for its warmth and snow melt (which he mentioned), but then 2017 came along and did just the opposite with record snow accumulation, little melt, and the coldest temperature ever recorded in the Northern Hemisphere for a July.
The fact that receding glaciers in Alaska are revealing stumps from ancient forests that grew 1,000 to 2,000 years ago proves that climate varies naturally, and glaciers advance and recede without any help from humans.
So, why is your SUV suddenly being blamed when it happens today?
The list goes on and on.
Some of what Gore claims is just outright false. He says that wheat and corn yields in China are down by 5% in recent decades. Wrong. They have been steadily climbing, just like almost everywhere else in the world. Here’s the situation for all grain crops in China:
And that lack of rainfall in Syria that supposedly caused conflict and war? It didn’t happen. Poor farmers could no longer afford diesel fuel to pump groundwater because Assad tripled the price. Semi-arid Syria is no place to grow enough crops for a rapidly growing population, anyway.
I also address Gore’s views on alternative energy, mainly wind and solar. It is obvious that Gore does not consider government subsidies when he talks about the “cost” of renewable energy sometimes being cheaper than fossil fuels. Apparently, he hasn’t heard that the citizens pay the taxes that then support the alternative energy industries which Gore, Elon Musk and others financially benefit from. If and when renewable energy become cost-competitive, it won’t need politicians and pundits like Mr. Gore campaigning for it.
To counter what is in movie theaters now, I had to whip up this book in only 2 weeks, and I didn’t have a marching army of well-funded people like Gore has had. (Too bad he didn’t have someone doing fact-checking.) Despite my disadvantage, I think I present a powerful case that most of what he presents is, at the very least, very deceptive.
