CLEVER China! Green-washing their massively expanding fossil fuel powered economy with token gestures like this “electric powered ship”. With the lame-stream media and “green” groups gobbling it up and parroting the blatant symbolism as direct evidence of how China is “leading the way in green technology..” Blah blah blah…
THE only thing China is leading the way in is:
– Record economic growth care of their massive expansion of coal-fired power.
– Selling unreliable (wind/solar) energy tech to the gullible, climate-obsessed West, sending their economies broke and
– Controlling the climate-obsessed mainstream media through token Greenwashing efforts like this electric ship.
CLEVER China. They must be in hysterics at how easy it is to con green groups and the sycophant media through the use of such transparent ‘green’ propaganda!
“Ship of fools” comes to mind. And I’m definitely not directing that at China.
China spoils the launch of world’s first electric cargo ship by using it to haul coal https://thinkprogress.org/china-electric-cargo-ship-coal-b3c6aa90564e/ via @thinkprogress 😅
China, already the world’s biggest electric-vehicle market, is now using battery power to fuel cargo shipping as well, reports Quartz Media.
A Chinese company has built a 2,000 metric-ton (2,204 tons) all-electric cargo ship, which was launched from the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou in mid-November, according to state-run newspaper People’s Daily.
The 70-meter long (229 feet) and 14-meter wide (45 feet) ship is equipped with over 1,000 lithium batteries, with a total capacity of 2,400 kilowatt-hours.
By comparison, Tesla’s Model X is equipped with a 100-kWh battery that allows it to drive nearly 570 kilometers (350 miles).

ONE of my favourite pieces of climate propaganda trotted out by the climate crisis industry is the coordinated line, “China, leading the world in renewable energy penetration…rest of the world will be left behind blah blah..”
UNRELIABLES are certainly a “bit-player” in China at best. I suspect there’s more green-washing than green-energy going on in the red state.

Further to the recent Global Carbon Project report, which revealed that CO2 emissions were on the rise again in China this year, it is worth looking at what the China Energy Portal has to say. Although they are an independent outfit, they say that all of their data comes from governmental websites, and I have found them reliable in the past.
Below is their YTD summary of electricity generation, showing how thermal has dominated the increase in total generation. Wind and solar barely figure at all.
[Note graph is Q3 2017 year to date versus Q3 2016 year to date. *Thermal includes coal, gas, oil, and biomass]
Based on these increases, we can project the outturn numbers for 2017 as a whole. Wind and solar would increase their contribution from 5.1% to 5.9% of the electricity mix.
While China’s demand for electricity continues to rise at…

“NOW the global economy has finally turned a corner for real, King Coal is back – as always, the engine of global prosperity and rising living standards, especially for the world’s poorest.”
MEANWHILE, back in novelty-energy land:
“KAPUT! German Wind Farms Set for Dismantling as Subsidies Dry Up”
WHEN the wind don’t blow, or the subsidies cease to flow – the power don’t flow and the windmills will GO!
EXCELLENT news for businesses, families, workers and the impoverished…
“SEVERAL thousand wind turbines in Germany are likely to be closed down in the next decade because they will no longer receive any subsidies. “If electricity prices do not rise over the next decade, only a few plants will survive on the market without subsidies,” says an analysis by the Berlin-based consulting firm Energy Brainpool.”
“ON another note, the Kiel, German-based Kieler Nachrichten (KN) reports: “Thousands of wind turbines will be supposedly dismantled over the coming decade because the state subsidies will run out”.

The Financial Times is disappointed that hitting the Paris targets is looking even less likely, thanks to economic growth driving a rise in CO2 emissions.

Paris targets under threat as forecast 2% rise follows three years of zero growth
NOVEMBER 13, 2017 Tobias Buck in Berlin and Lucy Hornby in Beijing 58 comments Stronger Chinese economic growth will push global greenhouse gas emissions to a record high in 2017 after remaining flat for three years, dashing tentative hopes of a turning point in the world’s efforts to curb climate change.
A new report by the Global Carbon Project, an international research consortium, predicts that carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels and industry will rise 2 per cent this year. The report was released at…

CHINA “leading the charge in renewable energy…” 😂
From the NYT
1,600 new coal-fired power plants are planned or under construction in 62 countries.
When China halted plans for more than 100 new coal-fired power plants this year, even as President Trump vowed to “bring back coal” in America, the contrast seemed to confirm Beijing’s new role as a leader in the fight against climate change.
But new data on the world’s biggest developers of coal-fired power plants paints a very different picture: China’s energy companies will make up nearly half of the new coal generation expected to go online in the next decade.
These Chinese corporations are building or planning to build more than 700 new coal plants at home and around the world, some in countries that today burn little or no coal, according to tallies compiled by Urgewald, an environmental group based in Berlin. Many of the plants are in China, but by capacity, roughly…

It must have something to do with the new coal-fired power stations that China and India are putting online every day of the week, for the past ~10 years and many more in the pipe.
The question is, how far will temperatures further plunge by the time India brings online its planned 2,600 coal-fired power stations over the next 10 years. ?
…let alone China.
Global temperatures have dropped 0.5° Celsius in April according to Dr. Ryan Maue. In the Northern Hemisphere they plunged a massive 1°C . As the record 2015/16 El Nino levels off, the global warming hiatus aka “the pause” is back with a vengeance. He writes:
Some good news to end April, global temperature anomaly has fallen to only +0.1°C today (snapshot) … graphic is like stock market trace
Global Ocean Temperatures Drop To Pre-El Nino Levels
Despite widespread denial among climate activists, a growing number of scientific research papers in recent months have confirmed the global warming hiatus, trying to explain its possible reasons (for the latest studies see here, here and here). The latest study claims that the Southern Ocean played a critical role in the global warming slowdown.

UPDATE on “The end of coal, fossil fuels and the rise of unreliables – wind/solar.”
By Paul Homewood
China’s natural gas production surged to a record last month and coal output rebounded as economic growth accelerated power use in the world’s largest energy user.
