“IN the summer-time lead up to the state election in March this year, Jay Weatherill shipped in 276 MW diesel-fuelled Open Cycle Turbines (that chew up 80,000 litres of diesel every hour).
“Over $815,000,000 was squandered in all: $610,000,000 on Jay’s jets and a large chunk of the balance on Elon Musk’s 100 MW mega-battery (at the time our insiders told us the full cost was over $150,000,000, now it looks like being closer to $200m).
With the highest power prices in the world, South Australia’s economic fortunes look more like a train wreck than anything worth writing home about. Its unemployment rate is rising and already tops the nation.”
WELCOME to the world of energy poverty, care of #unreliables – wind and solar ‘power’…
South Australians can thank their former Labor government’s obsession with wind and solar power for their status as an international joke.
Paying the highest retail power prices in the world (with worse to come), routine load shedding and statewide blackouts, and a grid on the brink of collapse, is all the inevitable consequence of attempting to run an economy on sunshine and breezes.
One of the reasons things got this way (and it happened in a bit over 16 years) is the manner in which the useful idiots in the mainstream press pumped wind power, as if it was a sacred gift delivered by some magical and benevolent deity.
In South Australia, the wind cult kicked off around 2002 when its then Labor Premier, Mike Rann started tilting at windmills – encouraged by the boys from Babcock & Brown…

Australian Power Project chief executive Nathan Vass said taxpayers would be forced to effectively “pay twice” for the program — once when they pay their electricity bill and again through government support of the companies running the solar and wind farms. “Australian industry won’t get much of a benefit from this deal,” Mr Vass told The Australian. “This will only help manufacturing jobs in China, Europe or the US where most wind turbine and solar panel manufacturers are based.”
NOT only are jobs, industry and “emissions” going offshore thanks to skyrocketing ‘green’ energy bills, but now income from energy bills will be going to overseas multi-nationals who build and control Australia’s planned mega wind parks.
JUST when you thought things couldn’t possibly get any worse! Insanity on steroids….
For Australian households and businesses being crushed by out-of-control power prices the Paris Climate Agreement is a maniac’s suicide note.
With nothing else to justify the $60 billion being thrown in subsidies at chaotically intermittent wind and solar, renewable energy rent seekers are clinging to the notion that the deal done in the City of Light will forever hold them harmless from both political and commercial reality.
The more insane aspects of the Paris agreement are yet to bite in Australia: agriculture and transport will eventually suffer the same self-inflicted destruction that has been meted out in the power generation sector.
Australia’s cattle and sheep herds currently number in the tens of millions: 26 million beef cattle and 2.8 million milkers; sheep number around 74 million. Under the Paris deal sheep and cattle numbers will need to be slashed by more than 26% to meet its target for…

“WE were the cheapest electricity market in the world, and now we’re one of the dearest. It’s insanity that this has occurred in a market that is so well-blessed in resources.”

“WE have some of the highest power prices in the world. It would be like the Eskimos having some of the most expensive ice per kilo bag at the service station, ridiculous. Like the Saudis having the world’s most expensive petrol, ridiculous. And here we are in Australia…” – STOP THESE THINGS
AUSTRALIA’S once key economic advantage and proud boast of having the cheapest power prices in the world has been sacrificed at the altar of
global warming climate change by its politicians’ obsession with global warming theory, an anti-coal agenda and subsequent mad rush into large-scale unreliable ‘energy’ sources – wind and solar.
POLITICAL bipartisan appeasement to the UN climate gods, over its own citizens, has come at a major cost to Australian businesses and households, now exposed to some of the highest power prices in the world, South Australia officially the highest :
MASSIVE subsidies afforded to unreliables via the $3BILLION per annum RET have driven cheap coal-fired power out of business and made electricity a luxury the very poor cannot afford in winter – and all this sacrifice will make zero difference to the climate…
AUSTRALIA’S Chief Scientist, and warming enthusiast, Alan Finkel admitted in 2017 that even if Australia ended all emissions from cars, power stations, factories and cows, the difference to the climate would be “virtually nothing”. But, damage to the economy would be devastating.
AUSTRALIAN ENERGY SUBSIDIES 2015/16 – LRET (Large Scale Renewable Energy Target)
Fossil Fuel Subsidies:
- $63 Million (2% of subsidy share)
- FF’s supply ~80% of Australia’s electricity requirements.
Unreliables Subsidies (Wind and Solar):
- $2.9 BILLION (98% of subsidy share)
- Unreliables supply max ~10% of Australia’s electricity requirements, depending on weather conditions.
SEE now what their panic-making has inspired – symbolic global warming schemes that have hurt us infinitely more than any slight, and most probably beneficial, global warming ever could…
Volunteer knitters in high demand as soaring power prices leave people cold
A national army of knitters is in desperate need of more volunteers to help them meet the growing demand for winter woollies.
Knit One Give One (KOGO) founder Ros Rogers said the organisation has already donated more than 55,000 items this year.
“The need has gone up, definitely,” she said.
“This year we’re having trouble keeping up with the demand for two reasons; we’re becoming better known so people are asking for us, but the other thing is that there’s just more demand.
“We’re not even talking necessarily about the homeless, or people sleeping rough — we’re talking about families who can’t afford to run their heating.”
Knitters benefit as much as recipients
The group, which started in 2004, has more than 5,000 knitters on their database, but some of those are knitting groups — meaning the number of individual knitters is estimated to be much higher.
Ms Rogers said they get feedback from volunteers and recipients who both benefit from the process.
“That’s one of the things that I love about KOGO, it gives a lot of people a way to give back to the community, people who wouldn’t otherwise, so the knitters get as much out of it,” she said.
“Occasionally we’ve had a letter from a homeless person.
“We got one email from a homeless lady which was very heart-wrenching, telling us how difficult her situation was and how a blanket from us was so heartwarming, not just the actual physical warmth, but the emotional warmth.”
“Even if people have got heating, they can’t afford to run it, so they need the warm clothes or the blankets.”
AS unreliable-energy-obsessed Australian State governments cheer as they blow up their last remaining coal-fired power stations, the rest of the sane/smart World secures its real-energy future with a massive ramping up of cheap, efficient baseload coal-fired power technology…
THIS is the grim reality of what life looks like under the totalitarian rule of the feel-good ‘Greens’. The “zero-emissions” zealots who want to force us backwards down the energy ladder to the days of human, animal and solar power.
JUST as socialist central planning failed miserably before it was replaced by free market economies, green central planning will have to be discarded before Australia will see a return to energy security and competitive pricing.
“Isn’t the only hope for the planet that the industrialized civilizations collapse? Isn’t it our responsiblity to bring that about?” – Maurice Strong, founder of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP)
AUSTRALIAN high-energy, thermal coal export earnings and volumes are running at record rates on the back of strong Asian power station demand. While it is early days, the July 2018 revenue figure is 31 per cent up on July 2017.
Strong Asian demand boosts coal exports
EXPORT volumes rose 10 per cent to a record 19.87 million tonnes, representing an annual rate of 238 million tonnes.
FEDERAL Resources Minister Matt Canavan said the figures backed up previous expectations that Australia’s high-energy coal would be in demand from Asia’s growing coal-fired power sector as it chased better air quality and lower emissions.
THE strong thermal coal exports come as combined exports of east coast thermal coal, used to generate electricity, and coking coal, used to make steel, overtake West Australian exports of iron ore as the nation’s top export.
ACCORDING to the ABS data, July’s combined coal exports beat iron ore for the third straight month, coming in at $5.58bn, compared to iron ore’s $4.74bn.
CHINESE coal-fired power generation was up 7.3 per cent in the first seven months of this year, from a year earlier.
AND Australia’s higher-quality coal, in terms of energy content, is being favoured over domestic mines and import competitors such as Indonesia as China tries to combat air pollution.
THE strength in coal prices has favoured those prepared to invest against a growing campaign and activism against thermal coal.
MEANWHILE, in Australia, global warming theory-obsessed politicians of both major parties and persuasions are giving up the countries once prized economic advantage of having cheap, reliable energy, by decommissioning and blowing up their last remaining coal-fired power plants. The Greens and Labor parties even cheering the economic vandalism…

ALL this destruction of Australia’s once cheap, efficient, relaible, baseload power supply has led to Australia now having some of the highest power prices in the world. South Australia officially “the highest“…
THE world has got the message: South Australia is closed for investment in heavy industry, and so, soon, will be the rest of Australia if they don’t learn from the dire consequences of destroying cheap power.
AUSTRALIA’S politicians, intent on appeasing the UN climate gods, over its own citizens, continue the mad and ruinous rush into unreliable-energy – wind and solar – assuring rampant energy poverty by denying its own citizens the use of the miracle black rock that provides cheap, reliable and increasingly ultra-clean energy via new generation Supercritical and HELE (High Energy Low Emissions) coal-fired power plants currently being built in Asia and across the globe…

DR Joe McGirr, the independent candidate favoured to win the Wagga Wagga by-election, brands himself as a ‘conservative’. But, his views on climate change and the evidence he provides to back up his claims, speak little for his climate science and conservative credentials…
The conservative independent candidate favoured to win the Wagga Wagga by-election from the Liberal Party tomorrow has written articles about the dangers of climate change and supported organisations such as the Climate Council.
In an article earlier this year that Dr McGirr co-wrote for The Australian Journal of Rural Health, he urged doctors to press governments on climate change.
“Addressing climate change has been described as the greatest global health opportunity of the 21st century … Climate change impacts health directly and indirectly,” Dr McGirr said.
“The role of health services in providing education about the health impacts of climate change is well recognised.’’
Dr McGirr yesterday defended his posts and comments: “I can’t hide the fact that I have published on it in literature.
“That was one of my research interests and as far as the medical industry’s concerned … it’s about how we’re going to die from it.”
Lancet literature had talked about people dying from heat-related illnesses, Dr McGirr said.
CLIMATE CHANGE alarmists like Dr McGirr use appeals to authority, with frequent references to “the literature” or “the science” as evidence to prove their theory:
Dr McGirr yesterday defended his posts and comments: “I can’t hide the fact that I have published on it in literature.
Lancet literature had talked about people dying from heat-related illnesses, Dr McGirr said.
THIS is what the medical journal Lancet actually found:
Cold weather is 20 times as deadly as hot weather... The study — published in the British journal The Lancet — analyzed data on more than 74 million deaths in 13 countries between 1985 and 2012. Of those, 5.4 million deaths were related to cold, while 311,000 were related to heat.
SAME story in Australia:
A new study published in The Lancet shows 6.5% of deaths in this country are attributed to cold weather, compared with 0.5% from hot weather. Most deaths will be from cardiovascular and respiratory disease, as it’s the heart and lungs that struggle when we are outside our comfort zone.
US temperature related deaths (CDC):
“The CDC says heat kills 600 Americans a year,” says John Stossel. “Cold kills more than twice that many.”
It warmed one degree in the last hundred years, and life expectancy doubled! says Dr Patrick Michaels.
McGIRR ON UNRELIABLES
“I have said I think renewable energy is important and I have said that in a public forum,” he said. “I accept that is not what conservative people want but that’s my view of the situation. I have got to stick to my guns.
The situation has become so dire that 77 per cent of low-income NSW households are going without heating in a bid to reduce their onerous power bills, new research from the NSW Council of Social Service (NCOSS) shows. And one in three low-income earners have been forced to stop using hot water for bathing to pay for energy bills.
ENERGY POVERTY KILLS
DROACONIAN climate change policies of the kind McGirr supports have indeed made the dying worse:
After a brief mild spell, temperatures are set to dip again in April after the chilliest March in 21 years.
It is estimated that 20,275 Brits more than average died between December 1 and March
An additional 2,000 deaths more than average were expected due to cold conditions between March 23 and 31, this winter’s average death rates show.
Campaigners have called the deaths a “national tragedy” as cold weather victims fatalities could be prevented – especially in the elderly.
AS a medical Doctor, candidate McGirr should be at least aware of the actual statistics of temperature related deaths within “the literature” that he says he has contributed to.
IF McGirr cannot get this most basic of facts correct, what other climate change falsehoods is he willing to tell you?

Heavy Summer Snowfall in European Alps – Austria, Italy, Germany & Switzerland Receive Up To 40cm
Matt Wiseman, Mountainwatch
Heavy snow fell above 1500 metres across the European Alps this weekend with a number of destinations reporting over 40cm of the fluffy white stuff.
While it is still summer in Europe, temperatures dropped over 15 degrees and dipped into the negatives in less than 24hrs. Germany’s highest peak, The Zugspitze – at 2962m above sea level – recorded 25cm of snow whilst thermometers hit negative 7 degrees.
Although skiing remains possible across half a dozen glacier dependant ski fields throughout Austria, Italy and Switzerland, the snowfall came just days after these areas were recording temperatures in the 10’s and 20’s, with parts of Germany expecting temperatures to reach 30 degrees by mid-week.
The result of the cold front that swept across many of these resorts and throughout Central Europe is perhaps best summed up in the below images… Feast your eyes and enjoy!

Last year I contacted you in regards to updating 7 years of missing tropical cyclone data on the BoM record.
August 16, 2017
I have been a keen observer of weather and climate for well over a climate point (42 years)!
The chaotic system of climate and “climate change” is ever fascinating. Though, today the ‘chaos’ has been replaced by an unhealthy polarization of “the science”, all too often determined by belief, politics and ideology. Sadly, dogma has trumped empirical evidence, corrupting the scientific method.
That said, I am seeking from you an updated version of the cyclone trends graph which ends at 2011. The BoM site has excellent data up to 2017 to complete the series. Is there a reason why the data has not been translated to the current graph? I would be happy to work on getting it up to date if resources are limited!
As a start, there is a written record from 2012-2015 here: http://www.bom.gov.au/cyclone/history/index.shtml

TO your credit, communication was swift and missing data promptly updated to 2016/17:
I write to you today seeking access to valuable historical information you once had on your website pertaining to historical “extremes”, namely the devastating 7 year “Federation Drought” 1895-1902…
THE page is no longer available:
ORIGINAL content of Australia’s important climate change history has been thankfully saved in the WayBackMachine and sent to me by Apafarkas Agmánd:
Drought. The word evokes images of barren fields, dying stock, and water holes and reservoirs drying to cracked mud. Shrivelled hopes, failed crops, and often economic ruin are its trademarks.
Drought is also part and parcel of life in Australia, particularly in the marginal areas away from the better-watered coasts and ranges. Of all the climatic phenomena to afflict Australia, drought is probably the most economically costly: major droughts such as that of 1982/83 can have a major impact on the national economy. Moreover, apart from crop failure and stock losses, droughts set the scene for other disastrous phenomena, such as fires, dust-storms, and general land degradation.

Why is Australia drought prone?
Australia is prone to drought because of its geography. Our continent sits more or less astride the latitudes of the subtropical high pressure belt, an area of sinking, dry, stable air and usually clear skies. The far north and south of the country come under the influence of reasonably regular rain-bearing disturbances for at least part of the year, and the east coast is watered reasonably well by moisture from the Tasman and Coral Seas. However over most of the country rainfall is not only low, but highly erratic.
Many, but by no means all, droughts over eastern and northern Australia accompany the El Niño-Southern Oscillation phenomenon, which typically lasts about a year, as in 1982/83. Droughts in the western areas and over much of the interior normally have different causes. Nevertheless, on some occasions (such as 1914 and 1994) El Niño-related droughts may extend across virtually the entire country. On such occasions, the economic and livestock losses are exacerbated

(photo c/o the Fairfax Photo Library).
Over much of the country, droughts can extend over several years, relieved only by brief, transitory rains. Indeed, probably the most damaging type of drought is when one or two very dry years follow several years of generally below-average rainfall. The “Federation drought” of the late 1890s through 1902 is an example, as is the more recent 1991-95 drought in Queensland, northern New South Wales and parts of central Australia. Over still longer time-scales, Australia’s rainfall history features several periods of a decade or longer that seem to have been distinctly “drought prone”. For instance, the mid to late 1920s and the 1930s were a period of generally low rainfall over most of the country, continuing through most of the 1940s over the eastern states. A similar dry spell occurred in the 1960s over central and eastern Australia. During these low rainfall periods, not every year is dry; it is just that rainfall in most years is below the long-term average, and there are often runs of years with recurrent drought. Thus in the late 1930s-40s major droughts occurred over eastern Australia in 1937-38, 1940-41, and 1943-45.
The 1990s saw formal Government acknowledgement that drought is part of the natural variability of the Australian climate, with drought relief for farmers and agricultural communities being restricted to times of so-called “exceptional circumstances”. In other words, the agricultural sector was expected to cope with the occasional drought, and relief would be available only for droughts of unusual length or severity.
AS Eastern Australia suffers through another awful drought, it is important that the public is educated into the causes of long-term drought such that appropriate action can be taken, as noted by the Australian Government in the 1990’s, “The 1990s saw formal Government acknowledgement that drought is part of the natural variability of the Australian climate, with drought relief for farmers and agricultural communities being restricted to times of so-called “exceptional circumstances”.
EDUCATION and understanding of the “land of sweeping plains,/Of ragged mountain ranges,/Of droughts and flooding rains.” helps to eliminate spurious claims of human-induced climate change as the cause of drought, all-too-often used by the mainstream media to push a political agenda or ideology.
SUCH wistful activism encouraging a misallocation of funds in a vain attempt to “stop” climate change with precious public money awarded to wind farm, solar panel corporations and power companies, rather than fund drought mitigation schemes (dams) and to aid farmers through tedious times that will always occur naturally, regardless of Australia or the world’s carbon dioxide output.
