The Arctic’s Message to G7: Commit on Climate – Scientific American Blog Network

(Un)Scientific American has trotted out more predictable un-scientific propaganda on the condition of Arctic sea-ice and temps ahead of Canada’s G7 Summit in Charlevoix…

Scientific American :

“Our Arctic ice is in rapid decline: 11 of the lowest masses of summer sea ice have all occurred in the past 11 years…”

“Scientists have been monitoring the Arctic region for decades and the data conclusively shows a long-term, significant warming trend.”

WHAT The ‘Science’ Says :

Arctic sea ice volume is normal and highest for the date in 13 years.

ARCTIC TEMPS

(Un)Scientific American :

“Scientists have been monitoring the Arctic region for decades and the data conclusively shows a long-term, significant warming trend.”

WHAT The ‘Science’ Says :

Paul Homewood …

“Akureyri in Iceland is regarded as being the Icelandic site most representative of climate in the Greenland Sea, as it is on the north coast.

I prepared this graph of annual mean temperatures a few months ago. It is based on temperature data provided by the Iceland Met Office, which has been carefully homogenised by Trausti Jonsson to take account of station moves, equipment changes, etc.”

The warmest year recently was 2014, with a mean of 5.3C. But this was not as warm as 1933, which reached 5.6C.

Let’s look at some of the other sites around the Arctic, using GISS unadjusted data.

What is clear though is that temperatures have plateaued, and there is no evidence that they will trend higher. Indeed, history suggests that the next move will be downwards.

As for the longer perspective, we only have to look at Greenland ice core data to see that there is nothing unprecedented about today’s climate there.

GREENLAND

FOR the second year in a row, Greenland’s surface is gaining ice at a rate far above normal, with 50 billion tons of new snow and ice in the past week…

BUILDING ICEBREAKERS

MEANWHILE, Russia and China are busy building icebreakers in order to cope with expanding and thickening Arctic sea-ice.

TWO countries who understand well, communism, and mechanisms used to enforce such an ideology – like the West with its ‘climate change’ obsession used to justify draconian eco-policy in order to control itself.

THE Russians and Chinese see well beyond the mindless ‘meltdown’ ideology of man-made ‘climate change’ and are getting on with dealing with r-e-a-l-i-t-y, and not the latest fashionable eco-scare – global warming climate change – driven by ideology and politics.

American icebreaker capability has been declining as other countries rev up. Russia has 46 icebreakers in government and commercial service, with another 15 in the pipeline, according to the Congressional Research Service. China is constructing its second icebreaker…

“Russia and China view the Arctic over the next half-century…” said Heather Conley, an Arctic specialist at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
